Gary and I got out yesterday afternoon for a bit. It was a cold, windy, overcast day but surprisingly there was quite a few out. They just wouldn't hold still for a shot, running from hole to hole with out stopping. We did manage to get 4 or 5. I had been cooped up sick for over a week so it felt good to get out in the hills and pop a few of the little squeakers to start the season.

We had about 11" of snow here in Washington and expecting more tonight. No ground squirrels but the deer have been walking around the house, footprints only. Looks like a deer highway. First time my job has ever been snowed out, no work tomorrow so I'm going to the range.

We got about an inch last night. By this evening it was almost gone, just parches around. Lots of COLD wind though.

Gary and I cleaned up on the whistle pigs today. Didn't expect to see so many and I ran out of ammo.

Gary, Jerry, George and I went out in the hills today. In the morning it was kind of slow but as it warmed up it got better and we wound up shooting quite a few. I shot over 100 rounds of .218 Bee and Gary probably shot close to that with his .22/250. Jerry was also shooting his .22/250 but I don't know how many rounds he shot. George was shooting his 10/22. Those center fires really make them do aerobatics, gave them some air time for sure. Jerry spotted one badger but wasn't able to get a shot at it. It was a beautiful day, lot's of sunshine and it got up to 64. A little breezy in the afternoon but not enough to bother us much. Just what the doctor ordered after sitting around all winter. Any body else getting out and shooting whistle pigs?

You guys spent some bucks if you were shooting center fires at those buggers.

Not to bad, we all reload. I think it costs less to reload my .218 Bee than it does to buy 17HMR or .22 Mag. It's so much fun shooting them with centerfires that you almost forget that you own a rimfire. Last week we were out one day and we saw a bird in a tree, when I looked through the scope I saw it was a eurasain dove. We ranged it at 155 yds. and when I pulled the trigger it looked like some one busted a feather pillow open. POOF ! Lot's of fun shooting that .218 Bee.

I also reload but with the .223 it is costing around .25/round with Vmax or Zmax in 40 or 50 grain. I bought .17hmr a hair under that and have been shooting mostly CCI 36 grain .22lr hp at them at .06 ea. But, my .223 is more accurate than the .17hmr and the .22, which are pretty accurate. I got an updated .22lr since I seen you last. Shilen barrel 10/22 shoots pretty good.

Yeah, there's not a lot of difference in cost. I guess it all boils down to what and how you like to shoot. I'll start shooting the .22 pretty soon but I still have a center fire along for badgers and bigger stuff. I've thought a lot about building up a nice accurate 10/22 but you can get a lot of money in them too. There's probably more after market parts for 10/22's than any other gun.

We got a few more today. There wasn't a lot of them out. Don't know what's going on, maybe they're down having pups. Hope the area we go to isn't getting shot out. They should have been running all over the place.

Yep, I did not like the accuracy of my 10/22 till I put on the Shilen barrel. Now it is spectacular. That use to be a Sporter model.

Gary and I were out again yesterday. It wasn't to good in the morning, not many squirrels out and about and we were kind of disappointed. Then the wind came up and just got stronger. We stuck it out though and shot a few here and there. Then in the afternoon they started running all over and things picked up. The shooting got better as the afternoon went along and the wind started dying down some. We really created some carnage, squirrels parts were flying. I shot my .218 Bee all day and Gary shot his AR .223 in the morning then switched to his 10/22 in the afternoon. He has got that 10/22 dialed in and he was really putting them down. We were out in the field about 8 hrs. and had a ball, great fun. We were hoping to come across a badger but no luck.
