Been a long hard hunting season, no elk, no deer and until yesterday I hadn't even taken a shot at a duck but my cousin and I shot twice each and brought down 4 hens, no drakes were shot at or harmed during this outing. Most the ducks were flying way high and if way high they rarely come down to the pond. Still, good times.

Went on my yearly guided trip from one of my vendors and had a great time. We shot 67 ducks in 2 days and it was actually one of the worst seasons for the area. Limit was 84 for the 6 of us combined but we were happy with what we got. It was still a really good time and the second day we only got 29, 38 the first day, but not much got by us the second day we were on our game. I'm second from the left as only Broper has met me.

Got a couple more with my cousin this last weekend. Good times. We quit when we got to our limit on hens as we didn't want to press our luck. But I cannot go this next weekend so that is the end of the season for me. Ground squirrels, rock chucks and prairie dogs hopefully next if we can get the trip organized.

Haven't seen a whole lot of ducks around here this year and hardly any geese.

Got off a bit early for New Years Eve and went duck hunting and got one if the couple hours left. Everyone else stayed up till Midnight, as I stayed at my cousins house near the duck blind, went to bed at 8pm, got up 4:18am since I didn't set my alarm and knew I had some time, got 3 more birds and very happy about it. Was a bit rusty and did not hit 3 though that I normally do when in the groove but so be it. To me it beats staying up late drinking and feeling like crap in the morning.

Alright! Good on ya'. I don't hunt waterfowl a lot but I have noticed the ducks and geese are far and few between this year. We've had a pretty mild winter I guess that has something to do with it. Haven't seen any woodies or teal, about all I've seen is some mallards and a few golden eyes.

The Canadian Mallards are just starting to show up there and they are nice and plump. I shot a couple weeks earlier and they were not there yet. Heard a bunch of Wigeon flying too but just could not get them to be interested in landing. My need some wigeon decoys since I don't have any.

A friend of mine, use to be a supplier of equipment for us at my old job, still takes me on a duck trip every year with an iron worker and his sons. This year our Saturday was a bit rough for 5 of us and the sons have come a long ways from the youngest hitting a standing goose decoy, a real stuffed bird decoy, that the guide said do not shoot as he was shooting at a goose just standing still 3' from the decoy and missed the goose completely and now uses a 20 ga with full choke to make it more sporting and has shot over 100 ducks this year and is now 19, but we only got 4 ducks and 2 really dumb geese that flew too close. Next day, full limit for all and one had a band. Because the iron worker family had so much duck already in the freezer they gave me all the birds with the exception of the banded one that went to the youngest boy and he most likely shot it anyways, and I gave our sponsor we shot with the 4 birds from the day before we had already breasted. The guide was having a great time as we were shooting really well and the day before he was skunked with his California group that he only called in 4 birds in but he said but they missed them all and couldn't hit a thing. We shot 30 in a couple hours but took about an hour and a quarter to get the last 5 as it got real windy and the right side, the iron worker side went from hot to luke warm as the wind was causing havoc as it went 20mph to 30mph or so and expected gusts to 40mph but still we all finished it out. Good times.

Sounds like you had a good time. I don't think duck hunting has been all that good around here this year, Haven't seen many and haven't heard hardly any shooting.

Last day of the duck hunting season for me and it was slow again as the flooding of the river made my pond too high with water and potatoes in the fields that were not harvested are keeping most of the ducks away from the ponds with no food. Was a bit tough as I like my decoys in certain positions and the flooding was so high the weights were not touching bottom and the dekes were floating all over the place. Not much more satisfying than shooting ducks and finished the season hunting with my cousin that got me started but have not hunted with him for a couple years. It was good. And I rewrapped my gun from Brush to Reed Grass. Turned out well. See last two pictures of the gun for comparison.

1st time, I think, with a shotgun in about 10 months. Put 3 dozen decoys out, couple of jerk lines and did a one man band and limited out with all green heads as I let the ladies alone on this one since the hunting looked good. Pretty rusty as it took 13 or 14 shots to get 7 birds as most needed an extra pill or two.

Good you're getting out and shooting a few. I was just commenting to Gary a couple days ago that there sure aren't many ducks and geese around this year. Seems like the last two or three seasons there just hasn't been as many. We get quite a few late season snows and speckle bellies. Last it seemed like most of the specks came after their season was closed.

I stopped shooting snows for a couple of reasons, one is that they monitored them and they had moved to Boise area from up hear but ducks were plentiful for a change and I've heard the snows are back. Sounds like the snows have come back home. We used to hit them pretty hard so maybe since we have given them a break for a few years they are trying our area out again.

A few years ago there used to be millions of snows. There's still a lot but not like they used to be. Took a drive along the river yesterday and saw quite a few widgeon and some gadwalls. And of course a bunch of coots.
