so far. Only seen 3 coyotes so far. Been out scanning the hills 6 or 7x. Still quite a few farm tractors tilling & putting down Anhydrous. So the coyotes are a little edgy yet. Mainly their still holding tight to cover. Seen this one last wk. I believe she? was kicked up by a farm tractor. Coyote crossed the gravel in front of me, by 30 seconds or so. I suspect this[same as above] coyote is a female. Can't say for sure yet. I need to put a bullet in her? ;D I origionally thought she was an adult male. As she was quite burly with a deep chest. But she soon ran to a timber patch, that is held by a very large grey coyote. Which I believe to be a male. Seen this dark one bedded down. Down-wind & cross-wind, around 5/8 mile away. This section is a 1x2 mile. Holds a family of coyotes. I would've put the stalk on this one. But the wind was slight & the picked dry corn was loud. I didn't think I would've even got within rifle range. Without getting busted. I plan to call this section this pm. If the wind doesn't change direction in the meanwhile.

I called that 1x2 mile section a few days ago. Spent around 35 minutes or so = O I hope to get a bullet in that dark one before the truck hunters go into full swing. They about wiped out the whole pop last season in my old hunt area. I heard they killed 43 coyotes, including an all white one & one coydog. Once they surround a section & send in some drivers to push them to the roadway, its game over for the coyotes I reckon that is hunting? Not my cup of tea anyways. Oh well.

leper,
Not my cup of tea either!!
Driving coyote seems more like a shoot, not a hunt.
Calling, spot and stalk, now that is hunting!!
Keep calling they will come. Hunger will take over soon!

During that call stand. Within the 1st 5 minutes, I called in a rook of crows to my NorEast[down & cross-wind] a 1/4 mile away. They all circled aways away, then landed in a tree along the fenceline I was up against. Maybe 30-40 yrds from my caller.
As they were landing a lone crow from that group, circled low over my e-caller. Crow was taking a good look circling as he was angled looking down. Crow soon picked me out along the weedline. Then commenced to squat[warning call?] & turn towards his family group. Then they all quickly flew away. They are a pretty smart bird.
We had a pet crow[in a large domed parrot cage in our farm acrege house] when I was a little kid. Little sis & I were pre-kindergarten age at the time. Taught that crow how to talk. An interesting & intelligent critter for sure.
Looks like so far. The coyote pop hasn't quite recovered from last yrs' hammering.
