i was up archery deer hunting in idaho on monday and watched a coyote run through the burn about 250 yards away. it was running perpendicular to me so didnt think too much of it. i was resting my feet and my bow was about 8 feet away. I did think to myself that i should get my bow in the rare case that coyote turns and comes this way, but didnt.
about 5 minutes later i look over and here he comes about 50 yards running to me. im right in the middle of a burn with only a few burnt standing trees, not much to hide behind... it was risky but i quickly made a move for my bow and got an arrow knocked and it didnt even slow down.
he ran and stopped about 10 (probabably more like 8) yards away and was looking at me and smelling the air. Didnt seem alarmed but couldnt figure out what i was. the wind was blowing almost right at him....another few steps and he would for sure wind me, so i decided to try to draw anyway. i drew and almost got to full draw and then i think i saw his nose come out his ass he took off so fast.
almost got my first coyote with a bow! that would have been pretty cool.
