My brother and I co-own a duplex and we had a terrible renter leave the place in horrible condition and it has taken us a bit to fix back up to rentable condition and I haven't had much time for anything, even posting, but that cannot possibly have happened to everyone else. Are you guys all hunting all the time? It's been pretty quiet. No coyote stories, not much of anything.
What has everyone been doing that keeps them off the board?

Hunting what? No upland bird population to speak of. General deer doesn't open until next week. I don't hunt elk because Idaho F-cked up the hunts. I won't walk across a road to hunt waterfowl! And I've drove a couple thousand miles trying to find any coyote population of any size to trap and make a little money!! NO didn't find anything, seen one jack rabbit and 2 kangaroo rats. One coyote in private land in the front gate and one along side Hwy 93. On top of all of that I'm furloughed because of the DF's!! in Washington DC!!!! I know get out and go calling. I actually want to kill something, not waste my time, money and gas. Besides they ain't prime yet!!

I had a great hunting trip. I got back from Seattle Saturday. Great hunting trip. I came home with 3500 rounds of 22LR, 1200 17HMR, 5000 shot gun shells. And a new super Blackhawk, holster, and gun belt.
Oh, and never fired a shot.

Tell me, I really just got back into hunting the last handful of years because my kids are all raised and I've got more time and did quite a bit of shooting when I was a kid, but why the aversion to water fowl hunting? I have really had a good time hunting ducks and geese and really like the taste of geese, ducks I eat them because I shoot them but don't find them exceptionally delicious like geese when marinated and cooked properly but I do enjoy shooting them. I wish I was better with the shotgun but as it is I'm way better with a rifle and handguns, but still enjoy it immensely.

Never got into any good hunting where I grew up. Hate the taste of goose and ducks. Never had much good happenings with waterfowl hunters. They like to blast everything in traps and steal all of it. Soured very much so on the weekend warriors. Good luck on your waterfowl hunting. I know some guys who really enjoy it.

Get a goose and breast it, and I'll give you a recipe for you to BBQ with and I think you would change your mind. It is a Tai recipe. And it only works if you like your meat medium rare to almost medium. Any more cooked than that and you have ruined a good piece of goose. Goose tastes closer to Beef than duck if done right.

My mom had the best recipe for ducks on the face of the earth. But those days are long gone.

Actually, I was given a couple of large domestic ducks and they breasted out about the same size of a small goose. I'm going to do one of my smoked chicken or rabbit recipes tonight and see how it goes. The domestic duck is not even close to as strong a smell as the wild smaller ones.
Sprinkle heavy lemon pepper, dust with Cajun seasoning, wrap in bacon and smoke. The bacon keeps it from drying out for chicken and rabbit and probably will do the same with the duck.
The chicken is good that way but the rabbit is even better but I lost my local supplier, moved to Texas.

Yep, domestic duck and goose are nothing like the wild ones. Ever try a coot? Stink woese than a skunk!

The domestic duck was pretty good. Cut the bacon up with the duck into bite size after it was cooked, good stuff for dinner but even better for lunch after the spices and bacon got to be a bit more familiar with each other. After I started the smoke I read not to treat duck like chicken, but I did and it was fine. I'm still a big fan of Alder for smoking and I prefer it over most the other standbys like oak, mesquite and cherry.
No coots for me.
